Australian Company ‘EnPointe’ Wireless System.
Australia has a small (compared to world wide Fencing powerhouses) but dedicated Fencing Community.
Emerging out of Melbourne “EnPointe” has created and Manufactured an alternative to ground wired and expensive European Scoring Boxes.
Wireless will eventually overtake traditional ground or wired systems, and in a world where light weight, tech savvy systems are easy to use and require a small storage area, Fencing Clubs will be gravitating towards EnPointe Wireless Systems, that are Revolutionary-Practical-Affordable.

FIE suspends use of Transparent Mask
Due to the recent failure of a transparent mask, the FIE have decided to suspend and forbid, until further notice the use of the transparent mask at foil and epee at all FIE official competitions. The FIE urgent letter and the conclusions of the laboratory are at http://www.fie.ch/Fencing/Letters.aspx
Since the notice a statement has been released from Leon Paul. uk
”This weekend following the receipt of a technical report regarding the failure of a Ulhmann transparent mask at the Junior European Championships the F.I.E. have temporarily suspended their use at its competitions for foil and epee. Leon Paul have reviewed all the technical evidence and the reports from the independent technical advisor who tested the mask that failed and two other independent experts. All of this confirms our continued belief that a mask that is made according to the FIE rules that incorporates in its design all of the features that are suggested in the FIE rules is perfectly safe provided it is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.”
Until further notice this means the transparent masks wont be used…

Chinese Fencing Brand (Wuxi / Jiang) said to be banned by the European Union.
The EU’s Consumer Affairs division (under report: “RAPEX”) has safety concerns with its FIE clothing protective strength.
Wuxi has apparently recalled its line with EU officials banning the sale of the “Beijing FIE 800N Jacket & Beijing FIE 800N Breeches“.
for more read link Fencing.net
The FIE hasn’t come out with a statement, although the report has been out for 2 weeks +.
Until then the equipment is appropriate and national bodies wont respond until the FIE has.
NB: The FIE has allowed the equipment to be worn.
Wuxi Uniforms – Australian Situation
The EU’s Consumer Affairs Division has jurisdiction over the sale of products, and their description, in Europe. The Australian equivalent is the ACCC, which governs trade practices issues (“misleading and deceptive” product claims). It is believed that a competing European fencing equipment supplier initiated the EU Consumer Affairs Division action.
The FIE has jurisdiction over the use of equipment, and tests sample fabric to confirm 800N compliance. The EU Consumer Affairs Division tested finished uniforms for 800N compliance.
So, here is the distinction: currently, the FIE will continue to allow the use of Wuxi uniforms, as they have passed their testing. However, you will not be able to purchase Wuxi uniforms in Europe. This means that if they are purchased elsewhere but used in Europe, this will be okay as well.
The only relevance any of this has to Australian fencing is that the FIE has still validated the Wuxi uniform material, and Australia falls under the FIE rules. However, if you are in any way concerned about your safety when using the Wuxi brand (or any brand in fact), then you should act accordingly.

Since Nike brought out their Fencing shoes, there has been massive interest from the web.
But after contacting Nike, they are still doing research and providing this feedback to the developers.
So they do know how popular their shoe is to Fencers around the World.
Since this shoe was released exclusively for the Olympics there are no current plans to bring it back to market.
The shoes that were released at this time were the only ones that were to be offered.
Unfortunately there is no official line from Nike as yet…. but we await the PR department!

The market is about to become a little cooler, with the worldwide manufacturer having the Beijing Olympic contract.
Finally some of the shoes are available for viewing. According to Nike the shoes are 20% lighter than other fencing shoes. With light weight materials the durability of the shoes are yet to be assessed, but one comment from Nike was like most serious sports shoe the life span was likely to be 3-6 months. From Nike’s information the shoes are made from more durable materials than before, so we’ll see.
